Born in Arizona in 1952, Gabaldon has a Ph.D. in ecology and spent many years as a university professor before turning to writing full-time. She began writing “Outlander” in the late 1980s and has since published eight novels in the series, with a ninth currently in progress. Gabaldon has won numerous awards for her writing, including the RITA Award, the Quill Award, and the Goodreads Choice Award.
